Blessings: June 2019

Let's get ready for summer with a fresh batch of blessings!

1). Blessings to former Trapper John, M.D. actor Charlie Siebert, whom Maria and I saw playing a mustache-wearing carnival worker on Murder, She Wrote. Siebert, a regular on The $25,000 Pyramid, was a prime suspect when the corrupt carnival boss/CEO was found dead. Also, his wife had a relationship with the Cabot Cove police chief years ago! Will this romantic backstory compromise the investigation? Spoiler alert: No, it won't.

There was an additional storyline involving tax fraud, which I enjoyed. Blessings to Charlie Siebert's agent for landing him that role!

2). Blessings to the police blotter in the Mechanicsville community newspaper that's delivered to our house each week. Most items in the blotter are innocuous, but how about the third item below?

Unauthorized use of a "vehicle, boat, or animal?" Why is "animal" on that list? Why is a buffalo in the same category as a pontoon boat? Blessings to the American legal system!

3). Blessings to this pothole in a parking lot near our Bed, Bath, and Beyond. What on earth is going on here? Why is it so deep that trash can float in it and still be below the surface? And how exactly did the soda cup end up here? Did someone mistake the pothole with the community dump? I think that a local auto repair shop is behind this monstrosity!

4). Blessings to the first few minutes of a show Maria and I saw on CBS. The show's opening scene took place at the "Ashland, VA" train station, which was presented as a bustling, hectic stop on par with Union Station in Washington. Below are screenshots of the "Ashland, VA" train station:

What makes this hilarious is that the actual Ashland station is about eight miles north of Richmond. It's literally the first stop when you head to Washington. And let's just say it's slightly smaller and less busy. When I take the 6:00 AM Amtrak train, there are literally five to ten people who board there!

The actual Ashland station is not as impressive as the one on CBS.

5). Blessings to all of the small towns in our area that sound made-up. We recently had a severe thunderstorm warning, and per the ticker on the bottom of the TV screen, impacted towns included:

Ballsville, Duncan, Hatchers, Rock Castle, Ashby, Provost, Three Square, Tamworth, Whiteville, Michaux, and Belona.

Are these actual towns? Belona? Is that supposed to be bologna? Who even lives in Tamworth? Can I speak to the mayor of Hatchers, please? What is the nightlife like in Michaux? Blessings to all of these small towns, if they even exist.

Until next time, blessings to everyone involved!

  1. It's always a dead giveaway when they have to put multiple signs up for "Ashland Train Station" that it's actually not the Ashland Train Station!

And blessings to the good people of Ballsville, which sounds like a real place and definitely not a place Bart Simpson would prank somebody with.

    1. Great points! You know that 99% of the mail that goes to Ballsville are just prank letters to mess with the postmaster!
